So finally it's on. Back in the game.
The mp3 to both sides of the single Can't Swim/Back To School is on the web, the DT facebook group members inbox, various blogs and host sites.
Fuck it. It's all good.
The people who download free music don't use i-tunes or whatever and those people again don't often buy vinyl so more heads gonna hear some dope Hip Hop and realise they need more DT in their lives. No problem. Book us for a live show. That's the whole point.

So it's done. A sober show.
Nearly four months without a drink and did not want to fall off this evening. Beers backstage. I'll just get a water. Puzzled expressions. Reputation in tatters.
Festival crowds. Not really 100 percent hip hop fans. Know what I mean? Nice buzz at the front of stage but a few where's the hardcore gone? in need of conversion toward the rear. No problem.
'The Return of the Ladies Man' and '4' from the new album swiftly followed by Deejay Random guest scratch battling with Jazz and Zy let the people know we meant business. Reception nice and loud the 'NY to the UK' remix into 'BX to the UK' remix straight into 'Pounds and Cents' coast-to-coast dropping extra verses followed by a Jeru teaser into 'No Collaborations' mixed the old and new with no pause for breath.
Jazz flips a new juggle. Few heads shouting turn it up! Fine. But where's the engineer? Get the levels once and wander off? We ain't playing house cds. There are two mcees and three deejays up here that need your undivided attention.

Squeak slows it down a minute with a Bob Marley interlude and we bang back in with 'Lifted' followed by a 'Live to London'/'Back to London' medley whilst behind the scenes a response to the volume boost request. Make sure Guilfest still with us? Yes indeed.
The deeper 'Can't Swim', the original 'Pubs, Drunks and Hip Hop', the unveiling of J-Zone's 'Back to Skool' and the sparse, lyrical '12 Steps' and we nearly done.
Only one thing left to do. 'Ladies Man'. So we did. And they loved it.

Perhaps I could get interested if I knew that the winner would have a percentage chance, however small, of ending up like Jade Goody.
Sorry. I don't think that I mean that. But please.
Perhaps the oxygen supply could be limited. Dependant on the contestants having to engage in meaningful conversations. Or each time inanity prevailed they would spend time in solitude only able to rejoin the group once reasonably routine mathematical puzzles have been completed. I would happily watch the latest vacuous bleach blond bubble headed twenty something die of old age clutching an old crumpled Maths paper to her silicon leaking south facing chest, her last words a mumbled "... so if John had ten apples and Jane took two away how many drinks would he buy me"?

Street Fighter IV

I am actually contemplating spending nearly £300 on a PS3. Just to play the new Street Fighter. They say it'll come out on PC but my bunch of shit computer would have trouble running Manic Miner. Or Jet Set Willy. But you can fight online and I reckon I'll beat anyone. Yeah. I said it. More like the Street Fighter II on SNES than the others. That turbo one was not the lick. All luck no judgement. No skill.
I was always Nintendo but now rocking a chipped PS2 that won't play the US region Galaga disc no more. Burnout Revenge or Tony Hawk 3. That's your choice at a Chubby games night.
So then. £300. Label money. Car money now I got my license back. Hell. Just money. I wonder how much a mint condition Astro Wars would be? Or Scramble. Or the Pac-Man shaped hand held Pac-Man game.
I don't know. But I want it. Bad. 2-D fight with a 3-D finish. Perfection.
This hits my screen it could be another seven years between albums. Just don't tell Jazz...

Where do sober people go? The cinema?
I'd like a ticket for the Thursday morning showing of Star Trek. Is Thursday morning off peak? I don't know. You don't know? I'll ask my supervisor. He didn't think so. Thursday morning. Not off-peak. Okay. So when actually is off....don't bother.
This evening's tickets. Popcorn and coke. Fifteen whole pounds. Or five pints of beer. Stay strong Chubby.
Hand ticket to the next guy. Walk to whatever screen but don't have drinking straw. Go back get straw. Two minutes have passed. Maximum. Walk back toward screens. Guy is asking for the ticket again? I shown you already. I need to see it. It's not that busy. Surely you remember me from just now? I need to see the ticket. You are walking through a mandatory identification checkpoint. A What? A mandatory identification checkpoint. No joke. Straight faced. A what? I ain't trying to cross into South Korea. This is the Odeon Guildford not the DMZ right?
State of Play. Certificate 12A. So why am I sitting next to a three year old? Why would you bring a three year old to the movies? Twenty minutes in and the kid's bored, grizzly and smells.
Ewan McGregor got $7million per Star Wars film. $21million 'wooden' dollars. From Renton to smug bastard on a bike. I choose another life.
You buy a DVD in one country you can't play it in the next. You pay for Sky you still got to a buy a BBC license. Do you receive a rebate each time a programme is repeated? Or rubbish? Daytime telly is not fit for purpose. Unless of course the purpose is to bore the lazy and inept back to work. I want my money back. And now they are thinking to charge for the iplayer as non-license payers have access to content online. I go months without renewing my license. Right up to receiving the second hand written, hand delivered warning. Then I buckle. Maybe next year.
So the next time you got dodgy Chinese DVDs for sale I'll buy them. All of them. And I will download torrents and share files. I will watch movies online, burn copies to disc and share them all. 'THEY' say piracy funds terrorism. No. 'THEY' fund terrorism.
Less of the suffering. More of the buffering...

Coffee. Cigarettes. New drugs of choice. Matter O2. You can't smoke inside and you can't drink outside. We don't want plastic champagne flute injuries.
Raekwon on at 3.00am? Jehst on at 12.00am? Rahzel on for more than 20mins? Yeah, yeah, beatbox, it's the fifth element. I think you'll find that's Mila Jovovich.
My man Jazz T and Jehst, Parknsun with support from Jyager pulled off the best show but hearing some Wu Tang live was cool and Raekwon took a beat CD. Sarah Love on the wheels. Mystro took over the jam on host duties. Lowkey set. Ramson Badbones and Joker Starr in the place. The Last Skeptik haircut.
Staying sober feels good now but had to ride out some dodgy moments in there.
Anyways I got a J-Zone track to finish before the album is done...

Recovery

Stop the press. Alcohol is not always fun. Or. After alcohol am I not always funny?
After two decades of abuse I am two months dry and counting. To 'celebrate' the previous twenty-odd odd years a solo album 'Recovery' is in pre-production highlighting the ups and downs of a life soaked in booze. There may be trouble ahead but there's a lot still vivid in the rear view mirror and whilst writing more honest and revelatory lyrics is cathartic for me I hope entertaining still.
I have never performed live sober. Before last week at the Jazz Cafe, (props to Jehst and Snuff for keeping Jazz T in work as his crew slowly comes round), I had not been out at night less than half cut for years. Years. Tonight we go again to Raekwon The Chef. Tonic water, ice and a slice. Meeting people I know for the very first time, again.
Check out the forthcoming Diversion Tactics single 'Can't Swim' and album track ' Twelve Steps' for a taste of things to come. Seven years since 'Pubs, Drunks and Hip Hop. Ouch.
On a lighter note the single's flipside 'Back to School' is J-Zone produced and funny as fuck. Wish me luck tonight, if not then buy me a drink...
